How it started

Why FestiTale exists

Our work began with a question Peter Ambos asked for his children: What shall we play at the birthday party? He wanted a story in which they appeared by name and solved tasks suited to their age. That idea led him to start FestiTale in Großhansdorf. We now develop stories for families.

What it is built on

We want children to hear their own names when the story is read aloud and wonder what happens next. The tasks they solve should let them make a difference in the story.

Whoever reads aloud should be able to join in rather than organise the afternoon. So the booklet says what to read out and what to have ready beforehand.

Where things stand

The stories are still being made. The adventures page shows which titles FestiTale is preparing and where they are meant to be played. We revised the Ahrensburg route after the first walk. It is now safe to walk and playable. A family we do not know is trying it now. We have not had their feedback yet. No adventure will be on sale before 1 February 2027.

What we are working towards

Brothers and sisters should be able to play together. So the same story is getting tasks for different ages, letting children play side by side even when one of them can already manage more.

For stories set in a town, we walk the routes ourselves and check whether the tasks work in each place.

Later we want to find out whether the same adventure can be played a second time, with different tasks and a different ending.

Try it together

Try the sample mission. You need no code for it, and you can play one task with your children, choosing the coloured objects yourselves at home. It's free.
